BELVEDERE Acrylic Display Concept

A college point-of-purchase concept designed and physically fabricated by Ian Jones in 2013, then photographed again in 2026 using the same original acrylic display.

Independent student project. Not commissioned by or affiliated with BELVEDERE.

2026 / The Original Object Today

The Same Display, Photographed Again

More than a decade after building the project, I still had the original acrylic prototype. In 2026, I returned to it with the lighting, camera control, retouching, and product-photography experience I have now. The object itself is the same physical piece.

Built by Hand as a College Project

While attending The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, I studied marketing and the design of point-of-purchase displays. Like many college students, I had no shortage of empty bottles available for inspiration, and I chose to build my project around BELVEDERE Vodka because I was drawn to the bottle’s distinctive design.

I developed a point-of-purchase display concept that made the bottle appear to float above a serving glass. I designed and fabricated the structure from clear acrylic, keeping the support system as visually minimal as possible so the bottle remained the focal point.

My original idea was to create the illusion of vodka pouring from the bottle into the glass. However, because of the project’s strict deadline and the fabrication limitations I faced at the time, I was unable to fully execute that part of the concept.

The finished display was selected as the best project in the class and was exhibited by the school for the remainder of the semester. I also contacted a representative from BELVEDERE and told them about the project. They asked to see it, but I never heard back after sending it. I like to think the concept may still be tucked away in an old folder somewhere.

The original photograph shown here was taken on the day the project was completed.

Design Intent

What the Concept Was Designed to Do

01 / Motion

Create a Suspended Moment

The angled bottle and elevated position were designed to suggest a serving moment frozen in place and pull attention toward the product.

02 / Material

Let the Structure Disappear

Clear acrylic reduced the visual weight of the support, allowing the bottle, glass, and brand name to remain the primary focus.

03 / Retail

Function as a Complete Display

The base integrated a serving glass and information-card holder so the idea could function as a practical point-of-purchase presentation.

The object did not change. My ability to present it did.

Placed together, the two photographs create a record of growth. The original project reflects an early interest in combining product presentation, physical construction, branding, and visual storytelling, disciplines that still overlap throughout my commercial work today.
