2025 4Runner TRD Sport Build Overview.

This is my ongoing 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport build page. I use it to document the parts I install, the photos I shoot, the fitment notes I learn, and the products that actually make sense on my build.

The goal is a clean OEM+ 6th gen 4Runner setup that works for daily driving, road trips, Pittsburgh automotive photography work, and weekend adventures. No giant lifts. No mods that stress CV joints or kill the factory ride. Functional upgrades, real fitment notes, and product links you can trust.

If you are researching 2025 4Runner mods, accessories, wheels, tires, fender flares, seat covers, MOLLE storage, bike racks, or subtle lighting upgrades, this page is built to give you real photos and real notes before you spend money.

What's On It. Why It's On It. How It Fits.

This isn't an overland build and I'm not pretending it is. Every mod below has the exact part, the specs, the install notes, and how it's actually working on the truck.

RockTrix RT107 17 inch wheels and Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail 265/70R17 all-terrain tires installed on Ian Jones' 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport build, showing real-world 6th gen 4Runner wheel and tire fitment.

FEATURED UPGRADE

Wheel and Tire Setup: RockTrix RT107 + Cooper A/T.

RockTrix RT107 in 17×8.5, ET +25, paired with Cooper Discoverer Road & Trail A/T in 265/70R17. Pushes the wheel face out about 30mm versus stock, fills the wheel well, and balances the wide flares. No rubbing at normal driving or full lock on my build.

The RockTrix RT107 and Cooper A/T setup gives the 2025 4Runner a cleaner, wider OEM+ stance without going overboard.

SECTION 03A / Front Suspension

Rough Country M1R Reservoir Struts.

Stock TRD Sport runs unbranded twin-tube shocks up front. Functional, but nothing special. The Rough Country M1R Reservoir Loaded Struts are a meaningful step up: 46mm monotube body, digressive piston, external reservoir for heat dissipation, and adjustable ride height from 0–2".

The adjustable height is the big one for me. I can level the factory rake without committing to a fixed lift, and the digressive valving keeps the highway ride composed. On my build, the front sits clean with the wheel/tire setup and stays planted on long drives.

SECTION 03B / Wide Fender Flares

Wide Fender Flares.

The Rough Country wide fender flares in gloss black are doing real work on this build. With the +25 offset wheels pushing the face out, the stock flares couldn't keep up with the wider stance. These fill the gap and balance the whole wheel and tire package.

On my build they keep an OEM+ profile without going full overland. The gloss black blends with the Underground paint at a glance and reads factory-spec instead of aftermarket. They look like they came off a TRD Pro.

SECTION 03C / Overland

Rough Country Retractable Awning.

The Rough Country Retractable Roof Rack Awning mounts along the driver side of the roof rack and opens to 6 feet 6 inches by 9 feet 8 inches. Rough Country rates that as enough shade for three to five people, which is the right size for a tailgate, a trailhead lunch, or working out of the back of the truck on a location shoot.

Stowed, it stays tight to the rack and does not fight the roofline. The fabric is 420D Oxford with a PU coating, rated to 2000mm waterproof and Anti-UV 50+, and the frame is aluminum, so it is not putting real weight up top.

04 Performance Air Intake

Banks Ram-Air Intake On My 2025 4Runner.

The first performance mod on this build. The i-FORCE 2.4 liter turbo lives on airflow, and the factory intake is the obvious restriction to clear first.

Banks Ram-Air intake installed in the engine bay of a 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport, showing the molded Ram-Air housing, red oiled filter inside the enclosed airbox, and factory wiring and battery routing around the finished install.
Banks Ram-Air / finished install SHOT 11
SECTION 04A / Cold Air Intake

Banks Ram-Air Cold Air Intake.

The Banks Ram-Air Intake replaces the factory airbox with a sealed housing, a much larger oiled filter, and a side fender inlet that feeds the turbo cooler, denser air. Banks part number 42291 covers the 2024 to 2026 Tacoma 2.4L and the 2025 to 2026 4Runner 2.4L. Banks does not list it as compatible with Trailhunter or TRD Pro.

The reason this one made the list is the housing. It stays enclosed instead of hanging an open cone in the engine bay, and the filter element gives real surface area rather than a token filter inside a plastic tube.

One fitment note worth having if you are cross-shopping: Banks uses the same part number for the Tacoma and the 4Runner, so search results and product titles will often lead with Tacoma even when you are shopping for a 6th gen 4Runner. Check the part number, not the headline.

SECTION 04B / Install

What The Install Actually Looks Like.

Factory airbox comes out, the Banks housing drops into the same location, and the oiled filter seats down inside the enclosure. The side fender inlet is the part doing the work, and it is the reason the housing has to sit exactly where it sits.

Nothing about it is exotic. Hand tools and patience. The finished install reads like it belongs under the hood instead of something bolted on after the fact, which is the whole point on an OEM+ build.

05 Lighting Upgrades Front-End Detail

Lighting Upgrades: Emblem + Raptor Lights.

Two front-end lighting mods. Both subtle in daylight, both add real character at night. Plug-and-play installs, no splicing.

The Cali Raised LED Interior MOLLE System brings real organization to the rear cargo area. Tools, straps, pouches, camera gear, recovery gear, all the stuff that used to roll around loose now has a mounting point.

For a build that doubles as a daily driver and a working photo vehicle for product photography jobs, this turns the cargo area from "stuff in the back" into actual usable layout. I'll be expanding the gear list and showing what mounts where as I dial it in.

SECTION 06C / Roof Rack

Cali Raised LED Premium Roof Rack.

The Cali Raised LED Premium Roof Rack is the platform everything else up top hangs off. It bolts to the factory roof mounting points with no cutting and no drilling, and it ships with six black extrusion crossbars, so the awning, the light bar, and anything I add later already has somewhere to mount.

The piece that sold me is the adjustable LED wind deflector. It hides the front light bar when the rack is running clean on the street, then moves in seconds when I want the lighting exposed. Cali Raised rates the rack at 500 lb dynamic and 1,000 lb static and lists roughly 4 inches of added vehicle height. Measure your own garage opening before you order.

SECTION 06D / Roof Rack Lighting

Cali Raised LED 43 Inch Dual Function Light Bar.

The Cali Raised LED Premium Roof Rack Front Light Bar Kit in the 43 inch dual function option drops into the front fairing of the rack. Dual function means it carries both white and amber optics, so I am not locked into one output for every condition.

The kit is more than the bar. It includes the mounting brackets, the wiring harness, and a switch option, which is the part people forget to budget for when they price out roof rack lighting.

Worth knowing before you buy: Cali Raised still lists the fitment field on this kit as 2024+ Tacoma even though the product title covers the 2025+ 4Runner. It fits my 6th gen.

A premium hitch-mounted platform bike rack for the adventure side of this build. Mounts in the 2-inch hitch, no-frame-contact arms, holds two bikes including e-bikes. On the 4Runner it sits clean and doesn't visually overwhelm the rear end. If anything it makes the 4Runner look even better. This rack is sick.

For a daily driver that lives in PA summers and winters, the heat rejection alone is worth it.

11 FAQ

FAQ: 2025 4Runner Mods, Parts, And Fitment.

Real answers about the wheel and tire setup, fender flares, suspension, the Banks intake, the Cali Raised roof rack and light bar, the Rough Country awning, lighting, MOLLE storage, and the Kuat rack, based on what is actually on this build.

Current mods on my 2025 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport build include RockTrix RT107 wheels, Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail 265/70R17 tires, Rough Country M1R Reservoir Loaded Struts, Rough Country wide fender flares, Rough Country Retractable Roof Rack Awning, Banks Ram-Air cold air intake, Rave Off Road illuminated Toyota emblem, NEOXIST raptor lights, Nappa Leather Full Coverage Camo seat covers, Cali Raised LED Interior MOLLE System, Cali Raised LED Premium Roof Rack, Cali Raised LED 43 inch dual function light bar, Kuat Piston Pro X bike rack, and XPEL XR 20 percent nano-ceramic tint.
RockTrix RT107 wheels (17×8.5, 6×139.7, ET +25) with Cooper Discoverer Road+Trail A/T tires in 265/70R17.
Yes. I'm running 265/70R17 on this build with no rubbing at normal driving or full lock so far.
On my build, no. With the wide Rough Country flares and the M1R struts up front, the ET +25 setup clears at normal driving and full steering lock.
46mm monotube body, external reservoir, and adjustable 0–2" lift range. Lets me level the factory rake without committing to a fixed lift, and the digressive valving keeps the highway ride composed.
On this build, yes. With the +25 offset wheels, the stock flares could not keep up with the wider stance. The wide gloss black flares balance the stance and read factory-spec instead of aftermarket.
I'm running Nappa Leather Full Coverage Camo seat covers. Fit hugs the factory seat shape with no loose flaps or sagging panels.
Rear cargo organization. Tools, straps, pouches, camera gear, recovery gear, all get mounting points. Turns the cargo area from a loose pile into a usable layout.
For me, yes. I use this truck for daily driving plus photo work, so the cargo area used to be a mess of camera bags, recovery gear, and everyday stuff. The MOLLE panel gives all of that a home.
Yes. It runs in the 2-inch hitch with no-frame-contact arms, which works for both standard mountain bikes and e-bikes.
No. The Piston Pro X uses no-frame-contact arms that grip the front and rear tires instead. Important for carbon frames and e-bikes.
XPEL XR 20% nano-ceramic. Installed by Xtreme Car & Truck Accessories in Bridgeville, PA.
On this build, the plan is to use the Cali Raised LED Interior MOLLE System for straps, pouches, small tools, recovery gear, camera support gear, and everyday cargo items that need a consistent home in the rear of the 4Runner.
That is one of the reasons I went with it. The Piston Pro X is a heavy-duty tray-style hitch rack with no-frame-contact tire arms, so it makes sense for heavier bikes, mountain bikes, and e-bike use on this 2025 4Runner hitch setup.
For my build, I chose the Kuat Piston Pro X because it fits the 2-inch hitch, looks clean on the rear of the 4Runner, uses no-frame-contact tire arms, and feels like a premium match for the adventure side of the truck.
Yes. Banks lists part number 42291 for the 2024 to 2026 Tacoma 2.4L and the 2025 to 2026 4Runner 2.4L, which covers my TRD Sport. Banks does not list it as compatible with Trailhunter or TRD Pro trims.
Banks publishes maximum gains of +18.3 hp and +17.7 lb-ft from their own testing. I have not put this truck on a dyno, so treat those as Banks Power figures rather than numbers I measured myself.
The Cali Raised LED Premium Roof Rack, MPN CR4353. It bolts to the factory roof mounting points with no cutting or drilling, ships with six black extrusion crossbars, and is rated at 500 lb dynamic and 1,000 lb static. Cali Raised lists roughly 4 inches of added vehicle height.
That depends on your door. Cali Raised lists this rack as adding about 4 inches, and anything mounted on top of it adds more. Measure your opening before you order.
The Cali Raised LED Premium Roof Rack Front Light Bar Kit in the 43 inch dual function option. The kit includes the bar, mounting brackets, the wiring harness, and a switch option.
The Rough Country Retractable Roof Rack Awning, SKU 99081. It opens to 6 feet 6 inches by 9 feet 8 inches in 420D Oxford fabric with a PU coating, a 2000mm waterproof rating, Anti-UV 50+, and an aluminum frame.
Yes. This is a living build sheet. New parts, install notes, photos, and impressions get added as the build evolves.
