ARRMA
MOJAVE 6S V3. Off-road RC truck photography

Shot on my own truck in Pittsburgh: a 1/7-scale desert truck, flying gravel, low sun, and an independent product photography project from ISJDESIGNS.

01 / The project

Built to run.
Made to shoot.

I bought the ARRMA MOJAVE 6S V3 because it looked like a ridiculous amount of fun. It turns out that throwing a powerful RC desert truck across loose gravel is also a great way to create the kind of product imagery I love making.

This isn't a commissioned campaign. It's my own truck, my own project, and a chance to combine a hobby with what I do professionally: finding the right light, creating movement, and making a product look as exciting as it feels.

02 / The machine

Desert-truck
attitude.

The ARRMA MOJAVE 6S V3 is a 1/7-scale, brushless 4WD RC desert truck built for high-speed off-road driving. For me, its realistic body, wide stance, and flying dust make it as compelling to photograph as it is to drive.

The V3 redesign

The refreshed MOJAVE has a clipless body, integrated protection against debris, a 7075 T6 aluminum chassis, Spektrum Firma 150A Smart V2 ESC, 2050Kv brushless motor, and S665 waterproof digital steering servo.

It's a proper RTR truck, although batteries and a compatible charger are additional purchases. Those factory features are a useful starting point for both hard driving and hands-on hobby tinkering.

The 60+ mph figure is ARRMA's advertised speed claim, not a speed I measured during this shoot.

Motion.
Texture.
Light.

This RC car photography series uses a fast shutter to freeze flying gravel and low sunlight to give airborne dust its shape. Outdoor product photography works best when lighting, movement, and the product itself all tell the same story.

04 / Behind the lens

Not just
a truck photo.

I used my Sony a1 and Tamron 35–150mm f/2–2.8 for this series. The high shutter speed lets me catch gravel midair, while the longer focal lengths help isolate the truck and compress the action.

Finding the light matters more than anything. Backlit dust becomes a glowing trail, the tires get definition, and a little unpredictable motion gives the images their energy. A lot of it is timing. Some of it is definitely spray and pray.

This is high-speed action photography with a commercial product photographer’s eye: crisp vehicle details, genuine movement, and images that communicate how the truck feels in use.

06 / Beyond the shoot

The hobby
part matters.

Photography is part of my job. This truck is what happens when work and play overlap. There's the driving, cleaning, learning the mechanical side, researching parts, and figuring out how to mount a camera without sacrificing it on the first run.

That's why I wanted a proper place for the project on my site, not just another social post. I'll keep the longer running notes, specs, and ownership impressions over on the blog.

07 / The bigger picture

From hobby
to campaign.

The same approach extends to professional product photography for brands: studio detail, outdoor product photography, commercial automotive photography, and action-driven campaigns. I create images that show both what a product is and what it can do.

Have something
worth showing off?

I work directly with brands and businesses on commercial photography, video, and creative production. RC, powersports, automotive aftermarket, outdoor gear: if your product moves, throws dirt, or deserves this kind of attention, I'd love to hear about it.
