We used Ian for photos of our Pizza store and they were absolutely stunning! We are very happy with the photos we received. Ian was professional and had suggestions on the best way to set up the food. We received so many pictures from the four hours he was with us! I will be able to use these for years! I can't recommend him enough!

Shooting the chef, the kitchen, or the room too? That work lives on my dedicated restaurant page.

Restaurant & Chef Photography
It Doesn't Need to Be a Production

I work with what is in front of me

A food shoot doesn't always need a studio, a crew, or a shut-down kitchen. I have shot in big commercial kitchens and tight prep lines, from studio strobes to natural light, on restaurant tables and on stadium bleachers in 90-degree heat with the sun cooking overhead. I once shot a whole menu on top of a deep freezer in a restaurant storage closet, because that was the only space open that day. Whatever your space, light, and timeline, I'll get the shot.

The Process

How It Works

01
Tell Me About It
Email or fill out the contact form. Tell me about your restaurant, the menu, and the goal of the shoot.
02
Plan the Shoot
We lock the dish list, timing, location, and creative direction. On-location at your restaurant or studio.
03
Shoot Day
I show up, set up, and shoot. Lighting, styling, and direction handled. Built around your kitchen's schedule.
04
Edit & Deliver
Color graded, retouched, and delivered ready to post. Web, print, social, and Google-optimized exports.

Ready to get on the schedule?

A few hero dishes or a full menu rebuild. I shoot on-location, around service, and your kitchen keeps running.

The Part Most People Skip

Great food photos should not disappear after you post them.

A professional food photography shoot should do more than make the food look good. Once those images hit your website, Google Business Profile, menu pages, delivery apps, blog posts, and social media, they become searchable assets.

But only if they are handled correctly.

If a photo is uploaded with a random filename, weak alt text, and no clear connection to the food, location, service, or search terms people are actually using, it may look great and still do almost nothing for search.

I can help prevent that.

When I know what the images are for, where they are going, and what you want them to help sell, I can prepare the files with cleaner names, stronger image descriptions, and alt text that supports how people search for restaurants, dishes, catering, drinks, menus, and food photography online.

Your photos should not just decorate the internet. They should help people find you.

Common Questions

FAQ

The questions I get most often as a Pittsburgh food photographer from restaurants, bars, breweries, cafés, and food brands across Pittsburgh and Western PA.

Don't see yours? Email me and we'll talk through your project.

Food photography for menus, websites, Google Business Profiles, online ordering, delivery apps, social media, paid ads, packaging, and brand campaigns. I work with restaurants, cafés, bars, breweries, food brands, CPG companies, and packaged food products. That includes plated dishes, menu photography, cocktails, beverage photography, and food product photography. If it involves food or drinks and a camera, it's probably a fit.

Yes. On-location restaurant food photography is what I do best. I bring the lighting, gear, and creative direction to your space. Nobody transports plates across town, nothing dies in transit, and your kitchen doesn't shut down for a half-day field trip.

Yes. I shoot food product photography for bottled sauces, packaged foods, coffee bags, beverages, CPG products, and brand packaging. For non-food product work, e-commerce catalogs, and lifestyle product shoots, see my product photography page.

Every food photography project gets quoted on its own based on dish count, location, deliverables, and usage. I work solo, so there's no stylist fee, assistant day rate, or crew markup buried in the number. Send me the details and I'll have a quote back within 24 hours.

Yes. Photography, food styling, lighting, and creative direction all come from me. No prop team and no extra bodies on your floor. Just me, my gear, and your dishes.

I provide food photography across Pittsburgh, Bridgeville, Canonsburg, Washington, Robinson Township, Mt. Lebanon, Bethel Park, Cranberry Township, and the rest of Western PA. I also travel nationwide for the right projects.

That's a core part of the job. Past the shooting, I handle file naming, alt text, and uploading to your Google Business Profile through a Contributor account with 34M+ views. The goal is to make your restaurant and food photography more useful across Google Search, your website, and your Google Business Profile. Full details are on my Google Ranking Photography page.

It depends on styling complexity, the shot list, and where the images are going. I build menu photography sessions around what you need: a few hero dishes, a full menu category, cocktails, seasonal specials, or a complete menu refresh. Tell me the goal and I'll build the shot count around it.

Good restaurant food photography starts with a walkthrough when we can manage one. I want to see the space, find the best light, and talk through the plan with the owner, manager, chef, or whoever is running the project. Before shoot day, have your menu, drink list, and item descriptions ready, plus a clear list of what needs to be photographed. I'll also want to know if you're open during the shoot, who's cooking, where dishes get staged, and where the final photos are going: menus, your website, Google Business Profile, social media, ads, delivery apps, or print. The more we sort out ahead of time, the smoother the day runs. When I show up, the process works around your kitchen instead of interrupting it.

Fast. I've turned finished photos around next day when a project called for it. Timing depends on the deliverables and how much editing is involved, but my standard is 7 business days, often sooner.

Yes. Where they can run comes down to the usage rights you license and how the files get exported. Every platform has its own image requirements, so tell me up front where the photos are going. I size and crop for each destination: Toast, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, Google Business Profile, your website, Instagram, paid ads, print menus, and email. Each image lands looking right.

Yes. Alongside food photography, I shoot short-form video and social content: reels, behind-the-scenes clips, menu videos, launch content, and social ads. One ask: tell me before the shoot. Capturing video live is far easier than trying to recreate it later. Mention it early and I'll build it into the day. More on my videography page.
